Nifty Thought

• Kevin Rose’s Moonbirds have had a bumpy year. After soaring to incredible highs initially and cementing their position as the clear third place PFP behind CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club, they quickly fell back to earth and behind the likes of Azuki and Mutant Ape Yacht Club. Much of the criticism levied against the team has centered around poor communications and a lack of direction for the project overall. PROOF’s Q1 update seems to be an earnest attempt from the team to address these concerns.

• On one hand, PROOF’s presentation yesterday was a true return to form for the project. The team unified its fractured ecosystem by announcing expired PROOF Collective passes would become Moonbird Elders and announced new art airdrops for nested Moonbirds. However, the cancellation and delay of some previous promised items, such as the PROOF token and the Project Highrise, are ominous. Much of the team’s previous struggles come from them making promises that are ultimately too difficult to keep. Yesterday’s presentation was essentially more future promises for the project. Ultimately, it seems unlikely that any promises whatsoever will shift the NFT community’s sentiment toward Moonbirds. It is likely that only impactful shipped products will succeed with this. Nonetheless, Moonbirds now has a clear north star guiding the project and its holders into the future. This alone should give holders a reason to celebrate.
