• Cool Cats was once regarded as the most credible competitor to de-throne Bored Ape Yacht Club as the most valuable non-CryptoPunk profile picture. Times have changed. Following a highly controversial CoolTopia play-to-earn game launch in early 2022, Cool Cats lost much of its previous momentum and has since faded into relative obscurity.

• Although the decline of Cool Cats has been notable, it is important to keep the elements that contributed to its initial ascent in mind. Clon, the artist behind Cool Cats, has developed a cute character series that has clearly resonated strongly with many people in the NFT community. His recent commitment to firm up on Cool Cats intellectual property with a universe of unique and interest characters may be exactly what the project needs at a time when most “utility” has proven to not be very useful. While the long-term impact of characters such as THE KRITTEN remains to be seen, these lore additions have led to the project feeling the most delightful and charming it has felt in a long time. While Cool Cats may never reclaim its position as a top project, it may succeed in surviving with a core fan base into the next bull market.
