With classic profile picture collections pumping and multiple 7 figure NFT sales in a single day, many crypto traders are wondering if a second NFT meta is coming (8 May, 2025)
Nifty Thought:
The art NFT market has experienced a slight resurgence across project types. The Doodles collection saw a floor price pump in anticipation for its upcoming $DOOD token generation event (TGE) on May 9th. The token allocations drew some controversy from other NFT holders citing the team’s decision to reward Solana ecosystem participants over ETH NFT participants. However, many traders are hopeful for strong initial price action to make a purchase of a Doodle NFT profitable post-TGE, at least for long enough for them to exit the position. At the same time, high value art NFTs such as Ape CryptoPunk 6965 and XCOPY’s “The Last Selfie” transacted for more than $1 million dollars each with some speculating the Ape CryptoPunk sold for as much as $1.8 million dollars.
This signals renewed interest and conviction in NFTs that is exciting for an industry that has aggressively declined from its peaks in 2021 and 2022. Although this boost in sentiment and volume is refreshing, a true return to NFT mania will ultimately require sustained retail interest from new traders and new collectors. These high value sales and floor price jumps can help attract that interest in the long run if sufficiently sustained. But, if this is truly the start of an NFT revival, it is still extremely early in that process. Only repeated high sentiment days such as this one over a longer observation period can truly bring this market back to its former glory.
